Student Activities
During their stay with us, students are encouraged to create, lead and participate in a variety of social clubs, ranging from book clubs to art clubs to music clubs to poetry clubs, etc. Each class will generate its own personality, and therefore we leave the development, leadership and creativity to the students. In addition to social clubs, students will participate in community outreach ministries. This activity is not an option. Students select an outreach from a variety of ministries during their stay at Rivendell.
Every semester students also participate in one or more formal evening events. Students dress in proper attire, dine at an upscale restaurant and attend a sophisticated cultural event such as an opera, symphony or play.
Health & Fitness
Part of the Rivendell program involves getting students out of their chairs and away from their books. Rivendell has an organized intramural program that runs throughout the 18 months. Each IN-COMM™ class of 30 students will compete against other teams in a variety of sports such as basketball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, dodge-ball, flag football, and/or soccer--to name just a few. However, if intramurals are not your thing, various student-organized exercise regimens, such as running, walking, hiking, biking, aerobics, etc. are also available. Either way, the object is to get the heart pumping in an effort to lead a healthier, happier life.Outdoor Recreation
Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes, and outdoor activities are plentiful. Once the ice and snow melt, people take full advantage of the warm weather. The lakes teem with people as they indulge themselves in fishing, boating, waterskiing, walking and sunbathing. Many of the lakes are encircled with walking paths that become an interstate of activity filled with bikers, in-line skaters, joggers and walkers.Right down the street from the campus is Dred-Scott Playing Field, a 48 acre outdoor sporting complex fully equipped with multiple football and soccer fields, softball and baseball diamonds and tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts.
When the cold and snow return, we simply adjust and change activities. Bikers and joggers become cross-country skiers, in-line skaters become hockey players, boaters become snowmobilers and fly fishermen become ice fishermen. But if being out in the cold is not your thing, you can always join a fitness center decked out like a 5-star country club, complete with indoor pools, tennis courts, racquetball courts, basketball courts, aerobic classrooms and weight rooms, spacious locker rooms, private saunas, whirlpools and showers.
